DELUXE GUIDED KAYAK TOUR
Kia ora!
Some coastlines are seen; others are felt. Along the shores of Whangamatā, your journey traces an ancient volcanic coastline shaped by fire and time. In this tour you will Paddle past sculpted cliffs and hidden coves while your guide reveals the story of Obsidian—a sharp, glass-like stone once treasured by Māori for both practical use and cultural connection.
At the heart of the experience lies Whenuakura Island, a collapsed crater concealing a serene inner lagoon and a protected coastal sanctuary echo with the legacy of the Tuatara, one of the world’s oldest living species. On land, the journey slows as you share a cup of Kawakawa tea—an earthy, restorative infusion rooted in traditional Māori medicine.
This is more than a tour; it’s a connection to land, culture, and the timeless rhythms of Aotearoa.

Whangamata is home to the beautiful Whenuakura Island (also known as Donut Island).
Because of the island’s geography, access is limited due to swell and wind conditions, and only kayaks or paddleboards can squeeze through the narrow entrance. The island is a wildlife sanctuary and opens up into a beautiful lagoon which is rather out of this world.
Join one of our experienced team on an adventure that takes us around the Wild Life Sanctuary of Whangamata Islands into a secluded turquoise lagoon surrounded by native fauna and volcanic cliff rock.
A castaway or pirate would feel at home in the secluded serenity of Whenuakura Island.
